The movie which is titled "Farewell, My Dear Cramer: First Touch" will adapt the previous two-volume "Sayonara, Football" manga series which followed Nozomi in junior high school. The cast will include Miyuri Shimabukuro as Nozomi Onda, Shion Wakayama as Sawa Echizen, Kouki Uchiyama as Tetsuji Yamada, Ryota Ohsaka as Kaoru Takei, Ryoko Shiraishi as Junpei Onda, Koji Yusa as Kōzō Sameji, and Shimba Tsuchiya as Yasuaki Tani.

The anime is directed by Seiki Takuna and Natsuko Takahashi will serve as the scriptwriter. LIDEN FILMS will be handling the animation and TOEI will be distributing the anime.

A TV anime series adaptation will also premiere on the same month and will adapt the main story of the manga series "Farewell, My Dear Cramer" which takes place in high school. It is expected to run in a regular length season.

The manga series was serialized last May 2016. Kodansha comics described the manga series as:
With no soccer accomplishments to speak of during the entirety of Sumire Suo's junior high school years, the young wing gets an odd offer. Suo's main rival, Midori Soshizaki, invites her to join up on the same team in high school, with a promise that she'll never let Suo “play alone.” It's an earnest offer, but the question is whether Suo will take her up on it. Thus the curtain opens on a story that collects an enormous cast of individual soccer-playing personalities!

Arakawa's famous tear-jerker anime series "Your Lie in April" manga inspired a 22-episode television anime series that premiered in October 2014.
