The story revolves around the Man of Steel going about daily life whose super hearing allows the empty, growling stomachs of people at lunch time throughout Japan to be heard. Everyone knows the hero as he flies around in search for delicious food. Even Superman has a hankering for rice meals.
The manga Superman vs Meshi: Superman no Hitori Meshi is the next step of the collaboration between DC Comics and Kodansha which began in December of last year with the release of Batman Justice Buster by the duo Eiichi Shimizu and Tomohiro Shimoguchi (known for Ultraman, Linebarrels of Iron) in the Evening's sister magazine Morning. Soon after, the same magazine published Wanope Joker (Joker: The One-Man Operation) in January of this year. Miyakawa also pens the story for this manga and the art is done by Keisuke Goto. Both DC and Kodansha launched this project in order to create unique and interesting manga by utilizing each other's strengths.
Kodansha's Evening, founded in 2001, is a bi-weekly seinen manga magazine marketed towards adult men. The magazine currently runs a variety of series such as Futari Solo Camp and Gunnm: Mars Chronicle, also known as Battle Angel Alita: Mars Chronicle.
