Anime spin-off of Will Smith film 'Bright' drops trailer, cast, and release date of October 12

Netflix has unveiled the trailer for the upcoming anime film entitled "Bright: Samurai Soul", also dropping the big names that has joined the cast.



The trailer was released on the official Netflix and Netflix Japan's YouTube channel, with the English and Japanese dub trailers released in the respective channels. The synopsis of the movie, according to the Netflix YouTube channel, is as follows:


"Based on the world of the live-action film “Bright” and set in Japan between the end of the shogunate and Meiji era, this spin-off tells the story of Izou, a Ronin, and Raiden, an orc, who work to bring a young elf girl and the wand she carries to the land of the elves in the north… "


The cast for the Japanese and English dub was also announced and include big names as the voice actors. Simu Liu (star of "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings") will voice Izo, a human ronin. Japanese stage actor Yuki Nomura will be the Japanese voice actor for Izo, making his debut in voice acting. The character of Raiden the orc will be played by Daisuke Hirakawa (for the Japanese dub) and Fred Mancuso (for the English dub). The character for the orphan elf Sonya will be played by Shion Wakayama (for the Japanese dub) and Yuzu Harada (for the English dub).



The film is animated in 3D, and is the work by animation studio Arect. The production staff for the film has also been announced, with Kyohei Ishiguro (director of "Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop) is set as director. The scrip will be written by Michiko Yokote, known for Shirobako, Gintama, Princess Tutu, and Cowboy Bebop. Atsushi Yamagata is behind the character design.


The film is a spin-off of the Netflix fantasy action film "Bright" starring Will Smith and Joel Edgerton. The film is set in an alternate world where fantasy creatures have coexisted with humans for thousands of years, and lives in a modern day society that lsuffers from prejudice among the different species as a consequence of a dark lord's reign a thousand years prior. Will Smith plays a human cop, named Daryl Ward, who is partnered with an orc named Nick Jakoby, played by Joel Edgerton. Daryl struggles to work with an orc, who have experienced prejudice for centuries, while Nick struggles to gain acceptance in the police force and among orc-folk. But the two unwitting heroes find themselves tangled in a large conspiracy involving the most powerful magical object in the world, a wand, that threatens the safety of the world.
