The 16/17th Issue merger of Hakusensha's Young Animal magazine has announced on Thursday that the latest 364th chapter of late author Kentarou Miura's "Berserk" manga will be published in the magazine's "memorial" Issue 18 which releases on September 10.
The new chapter features a full-color opening page in addition to the 29 pages of color illustrations of "Berserk" as a special memorial project for the late author. Moreover, a special "Messages to Kentarou Miura" booklet contributed by the writers who have a close relationship with Miura the author and a poster of "famous scenes" from the manga will be included in the issue.
The late author, Kentarou Miura, passes away on May 6 due to acute aortic dissection at the age of 54.
In 1988, the "Berserk" manga was published as a prototypein Hakusensha's Gekkan ComiComi magazine where the author landed second place at the 7th ComiComi's Manga-School prize. Miura was then became notable and made his "Berserk" manga as one of his most successful work after its full serialization in Hakusensha's Monthly Young Animal (formerly Animal House) in 1989.
A TV anime adaptation of the manga series aired in 1997. An anime film trilogy from 2012 to 2013 was premiered and another TV anime series was broadcasted in Japan in July 2016 with the second half of the new series premiered in April 2017.
The Berserk manga had over 50 million copies in circulation as of May 2021 in the span of 40 volumes. The series was the inspired different merchandises such as action figures, trading card games, video games, and more. In 2002, Miura received the second place in the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize of Excellence for Berserk.
