The official Twitter of animation production studio Khara has announced on Friday through a public press release that the final Evangelion anime film titled "Evangelion: 3.0 + 1.0 Thrice Upon a Time" has been scheduled to premiere on March 8 in Japanese theaters.

The film was originally scheduled to premiere on June 27, 2020 but was moved to 2021 due to concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic. It was then announced that the film was scheduled to open in theaters on January 23, 2021 but was again postponed for the second time due to the state of emergency declared in Japan in response to the increasing number of the new coronavirus (COVID-19) infection across the country.

Studio Khara is animating the film with Hideaki Anno serving as the film director as well as writing the scripts. The film is the fourth and final film in the Rebuild of Evangelion tetralogy, based on the anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion.
