Japanese video content distribution service dTV has revealed on Thursday a promotional trailer for "Gintama: The Semi-Final", a two-episode special prequel to the upcoming "Gintama: The Final" anime film. The special will premiere on dTV on January 15 (Episode 1) and January 20 (Episode 2).
The "Gintama: The Final" which previously claims to be "the finale, for real this time" for the Gintama franchise is slated to premiere on January 8, 2021 in Japanese theaters. It will be the 3rd and final film adaptation of the Gintama anime franchise, adapting the remainder of the Silver Soul Arc from chapter 687 - 704 along with new material.
On November 28, the official website of Shueisha's JUMP J-Books has listed on Saturday the novel series adaptation of the upcoming anime film "Gintama: The Final Movie" by Warner Brothers Japan. The new novel based on Hideaki Sorachi's Gintama franchise will be released in January 2021.
The Gintama manga series written and illustrated by Hideaki Sorachi began its serialization in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump last December 2003 to September 2018, later in Jump GIGA from December 2018 to February 2019, and finished on the Gin Tama app in June 2019 with over 55 million copies in circulation worldwide as of November 2020. Several TV anime series adaptation seasons was produced with a total 367 episodes across the board. The latest anime series premiered in July 2018. Animation studios Sunrise handled the production from Episode 1 through 265 and later was transferred to Bandai Namco Pictures from Episode 266 until its last episode. The manga has also inspired two previous anime films, one upcoming anime film, OVA projects, two live-action films, two live-action net spinoffs and anime events.
It was highly acclaimed as the most comedic manga series during the generation and the most diverse as it collaborates with different anime series through their famous crossovers such as Death Note, Sket Dance, Assasination Classroom, Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Soma, Hayao Miyazaki films and many more.
