Phantom of the Idol began as a Japanese comedy manga series by Hijiki Isoflavone. It has been serialized in Ichijinsha's shōjo manga magazine Monthly Comic Zero Sum since December 2017.

The series tells the story of boy idol duo Yūya Niyodo (CV: Fumiya Imai) and Kazuki Yoshino (CV: Shun Horie). While Kazuki is a highly popular and hardworking performer, Yūya is the total opposite and is always slacking off. But one day, he meets the ghost of a girl named Asahi Mogami (CV: Nao Tōyama). Asahi finds she is able to take over Yūya's body, thus giving her a new chance to perform.

The anime's main idol group ZINGS will sing the show's opening and ending theme songs. The opening is titled Let‘s ZING!, while the ending theme is Kimi Kira (Japanese: キミキラ).

Additional cast were also announced for the rival idol group Cgrass, namely:

  • Hikaru Setouchi (CV: Takuma Terashima)

  • Chihiro Misaki (CV: Takuya Satō)

  • Akira Uchihama (CV: Tatsuyuki Kobayashi)
