'Puella Magi Madoka Magica' TV anime 10th Anniversary Project announced

The official Twitter for Magica Quartet's "Puella Magi Madoka Magica" TV anime series has announced on Wednesday a new special project to commemorate the series' 10th year anniversary since its first broadcast last January 7, 2011. The anime's 10th year commemorative website has also opened today along with the reveal of the commemorative logo, an illustration and a character draft drawn by Ume Aoki. No additional details were revealed as of writing.

The original TV anime series which is also known as Madoka Magica was created by the collaboration of director Akiyuki Shinbo, screenwriter Gen Urobuchi, original character designer Ume Aoki, and producer Atsuhiro Iwakami also known as Magica Quartet. The series was animated by Shaft and aired on January 7, 2011 via Japan's MBS, TBS and CBC. The series ended in March 2011 with a total of 12 episodes of which the last 2 episodes (Episodes 11 and 12) were delayed due to the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami disaster.


A new TV anime series based on the smartphone game Magia Record was announced on September 1, 2018 and was originally scheduled to begin airing in 2019. The airing was delayed due to an undisclosed reason and was sooner premiered on January 4, 2020.

The story follows a group of middle school girls, led by protagonist Madoka Kaname, who make supernatural contracts to become magical girls (mahō shōjo). In battling surreal enemies known as "witches", they learn of the anguish and peril associated with their new roles.
