Last January 2021, it was announced that the manga series is receiving a TV anime adaptation through an announcement video streamed at Kodansha Comic's official YouTube channel.
The manga series was originally serialized as a Twitter manga under the title "Kawaii dake ja Nai Onnanoko Manga" written and illustrated by Keigo Maki. On February 2, 2019, the series started its serialization in Kodansha's Magazine Pocket and since October 27, 2020, the series has been published in English as Shikimori's Not Just a Cutie by Kodansha Comics USA.
Kodansha Comics describes the series as:
Shikimori seems like the perfect girlfriend: cute, fun to be around, sweet when she wants to be… but she has a cool dark side that comes out under the right circumstances. And her boyfriend Izumi loves to be around when that happens! A fun and funny high school romance with a sassy twist perfect for fans of Nagatoro-san and Komi Can’t Communicate!
