Nobita and Shizuka are happily married!

The film premiered in Japanese theaters on November 20, 2020 and is distributed by TOHO. It debuted on 416 screens across Japan with limitations on seating capacity due to Covid-19 pandemic. Stand by Me Doraemon 2 earned $3.7 million on 305,000 admissions in its first weekend and ranked two on Japanese box office in November.

As of January 3, 2021, the film earned a whopping 2,433,882,750 yen (approximately $23.6 million) since its opening last November 20.

Stand by Me Doraemon 2 is a Japanese 3D computer animated science fiction comedy film based on the Doraemon manga series and a sequel to 2014 film Stand by Me Doraemon. Ryūichi Yagi and Takashi Yamazaki are directing the film. It is largely based on Doraemon' s 2000 short film Doraemon: A Grandmother's Recollections and shortly based on Doraemon's 2002 short film The Day When I Was Born.

Nobita - following his previous adventure - has managed to change his future for the better, making Shizuka marry him. Taken by despair, however, he decides to return to the past to re-meet his beloved grandmother, who died when he was still in kindergarten and to whom he was really fond of; the grandmother is happy that Nobita has gone back in time to be with her, and confides in him a great desire: to meet his future bride. Meanwhile, the Nobita of the future, about to get married with Shizuka and crown his "dream of happiness", is seized by a panic attack and flees into the past to see Doraemon again, fearing that he is not the right person for Shizuka.

Doraemon, created by Fujiko Fujio, is originally a manga series which was adapted into a TV anime series. It is highly acclaimed to be one of the best classic animated series of all time. It was produced by Nippon Television Douga (previously known as Japan Broadcast Film, and Tokyo TV Movie). It aired from April 1, 1973 to September 30, 1973. After the anime ended, Doraemon remained exclusively a manga until 1979 when Shin-Ei Animation produced a more successful second anime adaptation, which officially ended in 2005; it was in turn replaced by a third anime adaptation shortly after which continues to air to recent days.
