Animation studio MAPPA (Maruyama Animation Produce Project Association), the producers of viral anime such as Jujutsu Kaisen, Yuri!!! on ICE, Inuyashiki, and the ongoing Attack on Titan: The Final Season Part 2, have announced that they are opening a new branch in Osaka, Japan.

The Osaka studio is intended to specialize in CGI (Computer Generated Imagery). The CGI department is subdivided into six teams: 3DCG, background, finishing, photography, editing, and design. In fact, MAPPA's official website has already listed down career opportunities for the Osaka studio.

Studio MAPPA was established on June 14, 2011 by Chairman Masao Maruyama. MAPPA's headquarters is based in Tokyo, but thanks to their mega hit success in the anime industry, they have expanded to Sendai and now, Osaka.

Yusuke Tannawa (淡輪雄介), the head of MAPPA's CGI Department, says it was his wish to have an Osaka studio as he and many of his colleagues come from the Kansai region:

関西出身の私にとって今回の大阪スタジオ設立は念願でした。当社でも多くの関西出身者が活躍しています。

He adds that while 80% of MAPPA's CGI workforce works remotely, having this new Osaka studio will give them opportunities for a more hybrid work setup, making it easier for the staff to devote time and attention to their works as well as reinforce their passionate work culture.

CGI部は8割が在宅ワークですが、作品に真摯に向き合う企業文化が根付いているので、出社判断は個人に委ねています。

MAPPA will begin their transition to Osaka with the 3DCG team. In addition to their current software such as 3dsMax, they also plan to add Blender to their arsenal.

Congratulations to Studio MAPPA!
