Fans should also watch out for the June 2021 issue of the magazine where a full-color version of the author's interview will be included.
Illustrated and written by Isayama, the Attack on Titan manga series has been serialized in Kodansha's monthly Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine since September 2009 and collected into 33 tankōbon volumes as of January 2021. The latest 33rd volume was released last January 8, 2021 and the final 34th volume will be released on June 9 of this year.
Attack on Titan has become a critical and commercial success. As of December 2019, the manga has over 100 million tankōbon copies in print worldwide, making it one of the best-selling manga series of all time.
It is set in a world where humanity lives within cities surrounded by enormous walls that protect them from gigantic man-eating humanoids referred to as Titans; the story follows Eren Yeager, who vows to retake the world after a Titan brings about the destruction of his home town and the death of his mother.
The manga inspired a four-season TV anime series adaptation which began airing in 2013. A 25-episode first season ran from April to September 2013, followed by a 12-episode second season aired from April to June 2017. A 22-episode third season was broadcasted in two parts (cours), with the first 12 episodes airing from July to October 2018 and the last 10 episodes airing from April to July 2019. The 3rd season ended with episode 59. The first three seasons were all animated by WIT Studio, but the animation production was then transferred to animation studio MAPPA who then received the rights to produce the sequel.
The current and fourth season which is labeled as the 'final season' of the anime started its broadcast last December 6 and recently ended its 16-episode broadcast last March 28 with the announcement of the second part of the season. The final season will continue in Winter 2022 with Episode 76.
