The official Twitter for the television (TV) anime adaptation of Kore Yamazaki's "The Ancient Magus Bride (Mahō Tsukai no Yome)" manga has revealed on Friday the key visual for the second upcoming The Ancient Magus' Bride's original animation disc (OAD) titled "The Ancient Magus' Bride: The Boy from the West and the Knight of the Blue Storm" from the new original 3-part original video animation (OVA) series of the franchise.

It will be released with a special edition of the manga's 17th volume on March 10, 2022.

This second OAD is part of the original three-part (OVA) series announced last March 2021 for The Ancient Magus' Bride franchise. The first OAD titled "The Ancient Magus' Bride: The Boy From the West and the Knight of the Mountain Haze" releases today, September 10, in Japan bundled with the manga's 16th volume.

The third OAD episode will ship as a bundle with the manga's 18th volume to be also released next year.

The new OVA series is animated by Studio Kafka and is directed by Kazuaki Terasawa. The scripts are written by Aya Takaha and Yoko Yonaiyama. Hirotaka Katou and Junichi Matsumoto return to design the characters, and compose the series' music, respectively.

The series is based on the Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Kore Yamazaki which was serialized in Mag Garden's Monthly Comic Garden magazine from November 30, 2013 to September 1, 2014. The series moved its serialization to the new Monthly Comic Garden magazine after it was ceased in the previous magazine. It has been collected into 14 tankōbon volumes as of October 2020.

With the success of the manga, a 3-part prequel OVA titled The Ancient Magus' Bride: Those Awaiting a Star was made and is bundled with the release of the sixth, seventh and eighth volumes of the manga between September 10, 2016, March 10, 2017 and September 9, 2017. The 3-episode series premiered in Japanese theaters between August 2016 and 2017. Wit Studio produced the animation and Production I.G is credited with planning and production. Norihiro Naganuma directed the anime and Aya Takaha wrote the scripts. Hirotaka Katou designed the characters and Junichi Matsumoto composed the music.

The main cast includes:

  • Atsumi Tanezaki as Chise Hatori

  • Ryota Takeuchi as Elias Ainsworth

  • Kouki Uchiyama as Ruth

  • Yuuko Kaida as Angelica Varley

  • Aya Endou as Silver

  • Daisuke Namikawa as Lindenbaum

  • Saori Hayami as Leanan Sídhe

The series was later adapted into an anime television series which aired from October 7, 2017 to March 24, 2018 with a total of 24 episodes. The staff and cast from the first OVA series reprised their roles for the TV series.
