'The Case Study of Vanitas' second cour releases first PV and new characters, airs January 2022

Official news sources have announced that the second cour of the anime for Jun Mochizuki's The Case Study of Vanitas (Romaji: Vanitas no Karte) will begin airing on Jan. 14, 2022.


Based on the first promotional video (PV) below, the second cour will cover the Beast of Gévaudan arc from the original manga.

In addition to the returning cast, two new characters and their voice actors were announced, namely: Rie Kugimiya (釘宮 理恵) as Chloe, and Daiki Hamano (濱野大輝) as Jean-Jacques.

About 'The Case Study of Vanitas'

The Case Study of Vanitas (Japanese: ヴァニタスの手記カルテ) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Jun Mochizuki. It has been serialized in Square Enix's shōnen manga magazine Monthly Gangan Joker since December 2015. The story is set in 19th century Paris with a human version of said world plus an equivalent vampire world called Altus.




Synopsis from MAL:

Scorned by others of his kind for being born under a blue moon, the vampire Vanitas grew afraid and desolate. According to legend, he created a cursed grimoire known as the "Book of Vanitas," and it is said he would one day use it to bring retribution upon all vampires of the crimson moon.


In 19th century Paris, Noé Archiviste is searching for the fabled Book of Vanitas. Whilst traveling aboard an airship, he is saved from a vampire attack by an eccentric doctor who calls himself Vanitas and carries the very tome he seeks. Ironically, the self-proclaimed vampire specialist is a mere human who inherited both his name and the book from his master, the same Vanitas of legend. As the odd case of the Charlatan's Parade crops up, the doctor's ability to restore sanity to vampires by recovering their true name will prove most beneficial.
