'The Deer King: The Promised Journey with Yuna' anime film reveals visual and PV, opens on Sept 10

The official Twitter for the anime film adaptation of Nahoko Uehashi's "Shika no Ou" novel series has revealed on Thursday the teaser trailer for the upcoming film titled "The Deer King: The Promised Journey with Yuna (Shika no Ou: Yuna to Yakusoku no Tabi)" along with a key visual. The film is scheduled to premiere on September 10, 2021 in Japanese theaters.

It was also announced that the original novel series has exceeded 2.2 million copies in circulation.


The film is animated by animation studio Production I.G with the direction of Masashi Ando and Masayuki Miyaji. Taku Kishimoto is writing the scripts and Ando designing the characters. The music is composed by Harumi Fuuki.

The film was originally scheduled to premiere last September 18, 2020 but was later postponed by a year due to undisclosed reasons.

The film is based on the Japanese fantasy novel series written by Nahoko Uehashi. The novel was originally published by Kadokawa with two volumes in September 2014. Due to its success, the novel was awarded the Japan Booksellers' Award and won the fourth "Japan Medical Novel Award" in 2015.
