'The Detective is Already Dead' TV anime reveals 3rd PV, series airs July 4

The official YouTube channel of KADOKAWA Anime has premiered on Saturday the third promotional video for the TV anime adaptation of Nigojuu and Umibouzu's "Detective is Already Dead (Tantei wa Mou, Shindeiru)" light novel series. The new PV features the anime's opening theme song titled "Koko de Ikiteru" performed by MARY × jon-YAKITORY.

The upcoming series has been listed with 12 episodes across three Blu-ray & DVD volumes according to its official website. It will begin broadcasting on July 4 through a single episode 1-hour special broadcast via Japan's local channels.

The anime is animated by Studio ENGI with Manabu Kurihara serving as the series director. The series scripts are written by Deko Akao and characters are designed by Yousuke Itou.


The cast includes:

  • Shin Nagai as Kimihiko Kimizuka

  • Saki Miyashita as Siesta

  • Ayana Taketatsu as Nagisa Natsunagi

  • Kanon Takao as Yui Saikawa

  • Saho Shirasu as Charlotte Arisaka Anderson

  • Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Koumori

  • Takehito Koyasu as Chameleon

The series is based on the Japanese light novel series written by Nigojuu and illustrated by Umibouzu. It began its publication in November 2019 under Kadokawa's Bunko J imprint. As of November 2020, it has been compiled into four novel volumes.


The novel was also adapted into a manga series by Mugiko which began its serialization in May 2020 in Monthly Comic Alive magazine. Its first tankobon volume was published by Kadokawa in November 2020.


English publisher Yen Press describes the series as:

Kimitsuka Kimihiko was the assistant to a beautiful detective named Siesta -- until Siesta died, anyway. Now, Kimitsuka has encountered a girl who bears an uncanny resemblace to his former boss...
