The official Twitter for the TV anime series adaptation of Tsutomu Satō's "The Irregular at Magic High School (Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei)" web novel series has announced on Sunday that the spin-off manga series "The Honor Student at Magic High School (Mahouka Koukou no Yuutousei)" is receiving a TV anime adaptation for 2021 release.

The announcement was made through a commercial aired just right after the last episode of the second season of the Mahouka series "The Irregular at Magic High School: Visitor Arc".

The Honor Student at Magic High School manga series is a spin-off to Tsutomu Satō's "The Irregular at Magic High School (Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei" light novel series. It was written by Yu Mori in 2012 and was serialized in Monthly Comic Dengeki Daioh. The series ended in June 2020. Kadokawa published the manga's 11th and final compiled book volume in September, and Yen Press published the 10th volume in November 2019.

The release of the new anime series is a part of Mahouka's 10th year anniversary celebration.

English publisher Yen Press describes the series as:

A century has passed since magic--true magic, the stuff of legends--has returned to the world. It is spring, the season of new beginnings, and a new class of students is about to begin their studies at the First National Magic University Affiliated High School, nickname: First High.

A manga spin-off of the immensely popular light novel series The Irregular at Magic High School, The Honor Student at Magic High School follows the events of the original series as seen through the eyes of Miyuki Shiba, Tatsuya's sister. The life of an honor student comes with a lot of expectations...and unexpected hidden feelings?!

The original novel series "The Irregular at Magic High School (Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei)" written by Tsutomu Satō was first launched as a web novel series on Shōsetsuka ni Narō between October 2008 and March 2011. The light novel format of the series was released beginning July 2011 with a deal with Dengeki Bunko.

A manga adaptation illustrated by varying manga artists and published by different publishers started in 2013. In the same year, a TV anime series adaptation animated by Madhouse and directed by Manabu Ono was aired from April to September 2014.

An anime film titled "The Irregular at Magic High School The Movie: The Girl Who Calls the Stars" featuring an original story by the author premiered in Japanese theaters on June 17, 2017. It was directed by Risako Yoshida and animated by 8 Bit with the cast and staff reprised their roles in the film.

The second season of the TV anime series adapting the "Visitor Arc" of the manga was aired from October to December 2020. The series was originally scheduled to broadcast in July 2020 but was later delayed due to the effects in production brought by the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19). The series was animated by 8 Bit and the cast and staff of the first season have reprised their roles.
