The anime film adaptation for Sachiko Kashiwaba's novel The House of the Lost on the Cape has won Best Animation Film at the recently-concluded 76th Mainichi Film Awards.
The story is set in Iwate Prefecture with leading characters Yui and Hiyori who fall under the care of elderly lady Kiwa after the loss of their parents. The girls dub the house "Mayoiga" as it seems to attract spirits.
The film was directed by Shinya Kawatsura and animated by David Production. It premiered in Japan on Aug. 27, 2021.
As mentioned in the above Tweet, sales for the Blu-ray and DVD will begin on Feb. 2, 2022 in Japan. See the official website for full product details.
