The official website for the TV anime adaptation of Akihito Tsukushi's "Made in Abyss" manga series has announced on Wednesday the second season installment of the anime series under the title "Made in Abyss: The Sun Blazes Upon the Golden City ("Made in Abyss: Retsujitsu no Ōgonkyō")" for 2022 release. A key visual was revealed to commemorate the announcement.
The Made in Abyss manga series written and illustrated by Akihito Tsukushi has been first serialized since 2012 as a web manga in Takeshobo's digital publication Web Comic Gamma. It has been collected into nine tankōbon volumes since then.
It has been adapted into a TV anime series with the first season airing from July 7 to September 29, 2017 in Japan consisting of 13 episodes. It was animated by Kinema Citrus with Masayuki Kojima served as the series director and Hideyuki Kurata as the series scriptwriter.
It also inspired a sequel film titled Made in Abyss: Dawn of the Deep Soul which premiered in Japan on January 17, 2020.
