'Chainsaw Man' TV anime series announces 2022 broadcast

The previously-announced TV anime series adaptation of Tatsuki Fujimoto's Chainsaw Man manga series has been finally scheduled for 2022 broadcast. This was announced during the stage presentation at the JUMP FESTA 2022 event held on Saturday, December 18. A project promotional video (PV) was also revealed.

A promotional video for the upcoming second part of the original manga series was also revealed announcing its Summer 2022 serialization. The sequel of the manga will cover the School Arc of the story.

The TV anime series is animated by animation studios MAPPA with Ryu Nakayama serving as the series director. Makoto Nakazono is serving as the chief director while Tatsuya Yoshihara as the animation director. The series composition and screenplay is handled by Hiroshi Seko, and characters are designed by Kazutaka Sugiyama. Kensuke Ushio is composing the music.

The action-horror fiction and dark fantasy manga series "Chainsaw Man" written and illustrated by Tatsuki Fujimoto has been serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine since December 2018. Its chapters have been collected in nine tankōbon volumes as of November 2020. It is also published by Shueisha on the Manga Plus online platform. The manga series was recently hailed as the Best Manga in the Male Demographic category by Kono Manga ga Sugoi's 2021 Ranking published on December 2020.

As of October 2020, the manga had over 4.2 million copies in circulation. Chainsaw Man has been overall well received by critics, who have highlighted its storytelling, violent scenes and dark humor.
