About Heavy Object

Heavy Object (ヘヴィーオブジェクト) is a Japanese light novel series written by Kazuma Kamachi and illustrated by Ryou Nagi. ASCII Media Works has published seventeen volumes since 2009 under their Dengeki Bunko label. Some of the light novels were adapted into a 24-episode anime television series produced by J.C.Staff (with 3DCG provided by Sanzigen) which aired from October 2, 2015 to March 25, 2016.

Video game website and blog Kotaku calls Heavy Object "Not your usual mecha anime" because while every mecha anime has action-packed fight scenes between larger-than-life machines, this series also devotes a significant chunk of its plot to exploring how the technology has affected human society and their approach to warfare. Though modern-day wars have become relatively bloodless due to the efficiency of the machines called Objects, protagonists Quenser Barbotage and Heivia Winchell challenge the status quo by demonstrating how their intelligence and human ingenuity can outsmart both the machines and the military forces who are anchored in the belief that the Objects are invincible.

Synopsis of Heavy Object adapted from Wiki:

The Heavy Object universe is set in a futuristic version of the current world where warfare was forever changed by massive machines with spherical main bodies called Objects. Due to their superiority over all other weapons (including nuclear weapons), modern-day warfare has been virtually reduced to duels between Objects, resulting in shorter, cleaner, and safer wars.

However, two regular soldiers from the Legitimate Kingdom, Quenser Barbotage and Heivia Winchell, change all of this when Quenser proves they can use their smarts and their ingenuity to successfully destroy the "Water Strider" Object of the Faith Organization all by themselves. Having now proven Objects created by man can also be destroyed by man and not just by other Objects, Quenser and Heivia are thrown into a new world of harrowing adventures and dangerous suicide missions, with Quenser also befriending the Legitimate Kingdom's Elite Milinda Brantini, pilot of the Object "Baby Magnum", having saved her during the events of which resulted in the destruction of the Object of the Faith Organization.
