'Kaiju No. 8' and 'Oshi no Ko' win 1st place in Next Manga Award 2021

The Next Manga Awards 2021 ceremony, by Niconico and Da Vinci Magazine, has released the titles of the manga winners for 1st Place in print and 1st Place web publishing.

"Oshi no Ko", the newest manga by the author Aka Akasaka, has won first place for manga published in print. This marks the second time the author has won the award, the first being the now famous manga and anime titled "Kaguya-sama: Love is War". This will also be the first time that illustrator, Mengo Yokoyari, has won the award. Both the Akasaka and Yokoyari shared their appreciation to fans who voted for their work.


Meanwhile, "Kaiju No. 8" won first place for web published manga. This will be author Naoya Matsumoto's first time winning the award. Matsumoto thanked voters for the awards profusely, surprised that their work won. Matsumoto promised to continue providing the best in their work.



Other winners for in the awards include:

  • "Uma Musume Cinderella Gray" winning 2nd Place for Print

  • "dandadan" winning 2nd place for Web Comic

  • "Frieren: Beyond Journey's End" winning 3rd Place for Print

  • "Senpai is Otokonoko" winning for 3rd Place in Web Comic

  • "SAKAMOTO DAYS" and "Reincarnated as an Aristocrat with an Appraisal Skill" winning the special U-Next Prize

  • "Blue Box" winning the Global Special Award

  • "The Happy Marriage of the Wizard Linn" winning the UGC Special Award

The Next Manga Awards is an annual event that celebrates the newest manga. Eligible submissions are publications with less than five chapters released by the time of voting. Some of the most notable titles to have won in the awards include "Undead Unluck", "Wotakoi: Love is Hard for an Otaku", "Life Lessons with Uramichi Oniisan", and the hit manga and anime series "My Hero Academia".

Synopsis of "Oshi no Ko":


A teen idol, named Ai Hoshino, and a gynecologist, Gorou Honda, cross paths when Hoshino comes to Honda in need of assistance with her secret pregnancy. Helping her deliver her baby in secret, Honda finds himself dying and suddenly reborn as Hoshino's child. And with her, he learns the dark side of the world of fame and showbiz.


Synopsis of "Kaiju No. 8":


Kafka Hibino lives in a world where kaijus are real and a threat to humanity. In his world, the Defense Corps. exists to counter the threat of the monstrous creatures. Hibino wants to become one, but has failed to be accepted by the program. He has accepted his fate as a sweeper, those tasked with cleaning up the remains of kaiju. But after a series of events, Hibino finds himself changed when a parasitic organisms bonds with him and turns him into a monster. With his new abilities, Hibino tries to become the defender he's always wanted to be.
