Makoto Shinkai's latest film 'Suzume no Tojimari' announced for Fall 2022

Makoto Shinkai's latest film "Suzume no Tojimari" has been announced for Fall 2022 roadshow. English translation: Sparrow's Door Closure (not final). The film is tagged as a sci-fi mystery film. This is Makoto Shinkai's third film following the success of 2016 film 'Your Name' and 2019 film 'Weathering With You."

The film consists of the original story by Makoto Shinkai who also serves as the director. The film was announced on Wednesday, December 15, at the production announcement press conference of the same work held at the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo.


During the press conference, Shinkai describes the story as:

"A story of door closing that connects the past, the present, and the future.
The scenery is forever engraved in my heart." - Shinkai.

The story follows Suzume, a 17-year-old girl from a quiet town in Kyushu, meeting a traveling young man who is looking for a certain "door." Following him, Suzume discovers an old door in the ruins of the mountains. She reaches for the door so that she can be drawn to something ... Set in the ruins of various places in Japan, the movie depicts the liberation and growth of Suzume, who closes the "door" that causes disaster. Masayoshi Tanaka is in charge of character design, Kenichi Tsuchiya is in charge of animation director, and Takumi Tanji is in charge of art director. The film is produced by STORY Inc. and is animated by CoMix Wave Film.
