Osomatsu-san, the recent anime update of Fujio Akatsuka's Osomatsu-kun comedy manga, is getting a live-action film which will premiere in Spring 2022. The sextuplets will be played by Johnny & Associates' popular idol group Snow Man, and the film will be directed by Tsutomu Hanabusa (Kakegurui, Tokyo Revengers). Ryōichi Tsuchiya wrote the screenplay, while Daiki Sugawara is the producer. The film will be distributed by Toho Co., Ltd.

The cast members for the sextuplets and the film's original characters are (from left to right of the above photo):

  • Kōji Mukai as Osomatsu

  • Ryōta Miyadate as Period (original character)

  • Shōta Watanabe as End (original character)

  • Hikaru Iwamoto as Karamatsu

  • Raul as Todomatsu

  • Ren Meguro as Choromatsu

  • Ryōhei Abe as Close (original character)

  • Daisuke Sakuma as Jūshimatsu

  • Tatsuya Fukazawa as Ichimatsu

The Snow Man members are fans of the anime and even released a 20-minute YouTube video to express their anticipation for the film.

Snow Man is a Japanese idol boy band formed by Johnny & Associates in 2012. The nine-member group was previously a sub-unit of Johnny & Associates' pre-debut trainee group, Johnny's Jr. Along with idol group SixTones, Snow Man made their official debut on January 22, 2020. The group has performed theme songs for the anime Black Clover such as Stories (11th opening song) and Grandeur (13th opening song).

The Osomatsu-san television anime is inspired by Fujio Akatsuka's original Osomatsu-kun manga and anime which revolves around the Matsuno household and their six mischievous sons (who are sextuplets). The original Osomatsu-kun series followed the family when the sons were 10 years old, while Osomatsu-san re-imagines the original manga and anime with the sextuplets as adults. All of the brothers have now grown up into lazy NEETs (Young persons not engaged in education, employment, or training), with each brother having developed their own distinct personality. The series follows the brothers in their everyday (and occasionally made up) lives.

The first season of Osomatsu-san premiered in October 2015, while the second season premiered in Japan on TV Tokyo and TV Aichi in October 2017. The Eiga no Osomatsu-san film was released in March 2019. The third season aired in October 2020. Two more films will have limited screenings in theaters in Japan in 2022 and 2023.
