The series is animated by ARVO Animation with Akitoshi Yokoyama serving as the series director. Original author Keisuke Makino is in charge of the scripts and Hiromi Kato is designing the characters with Yuji Kaneko serving as the art director.

The cast members include:

  • Megumi Hayashibara as Irina Luminesque

  • Kouki Uchiyama as Lev Leps

  • Satoshi Hino as Mikhail Yashin

  • Mikako Komatsu as Roza Plevitskaya

  • Hina Kino as Anya Simonyan

The series is based on the Japanese light novel series written by Keisuke Makino and illustrated by Karei which was launched on December 2016 under Shogakukan's Gagaga Bunko imprint. As of March 2020, the novel has been collected into 6 volumes with the sixth volume to be released on Thursday.

The novel inspired a manga series adaptation with art by Sojihogu serialized in March 2018 as a web manga in Kodansha's Comic Days website. Due to Sojihogu's poor health, the manga went to an indefinite hiatus since January 2019 and has not resumed yet.

Kodansha describes the story as:

The story of a young man who yearned for space and a vampire girl.

The first astronaut in the history of mankind was a vampire girl—-.

It’s the era where manned spaceflight has not yet succeeded.

The supreme leader of the republic announced the project to send humans up into orbit with rockets. He spoke passionately, “Before the United Kingdom does, let’s make mankind reach space!”

Behind the scenes, at the end of the snowy fields of the republic, at the secret town , the “Nosferatu Project” that used vampires as a substitutes for humans for rocket flight experiments was moving forward. Taking advantage of a certain incident, First Lieutenant Liev Lepus was promoted from Cosmonaut Cadet. He was ordered to supervise the vampire girl, Irina Luminesque, who was chosen by chance to be a guinea pig.
