The official Twitter of "Pompo: The Cinéphile" animated film has announced on Friday that the production committee has decided to postpone the opening of the upcoming animated film in Japanese theaters from March to June 2021 due to the effects of the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. This is the second time the committee has postponed the said film which was originally scheduled to premiere in 2020.
Though the decision was considered final, the committee is still planning limited public preview screenings in March 2021 while following the strict health protocols and measures to avoid infections between moviegoers.
Last September 25, AniRadio+ has reported that the film's committee decided to postpone the opening of the film in Japanese theaters to Spring 2021 due to 'various reasons'.
The film is animated by CLAP and directed by Takayuki Hirao, with Ryoichiro Matsuo serving as producer and Shingo Adachi designing the characters.
The film adaptation is based on the Japanese manga series by Shogo Sugitani (also known as Ningen Plamo), serialized online via pixiv Comic website since April 2017. It has been collected in two tankōbon volumes by Media Factory.
