An old friend makes a riotous comeback in a new form and Shion’s cooking no longer poisons — great stuff to start of the second half of the season!
The Storm Dragon Veldora Tempest gets comfortable in the new body and meets the rest of Rimuru’s gang. After a night of festivities, the city of Tempest goes into planning mode with their new Demon Lord leader. However, two unexpected visitors come by and forcibly join the meeting.
Old Buddy, New Body
Fans finally get to see Veldora in his human form! Voiced by the veteran voice actor Tomoaki Maeno, the tsundere dragon immersed himself in a litany of manga and pop-culturewhile waiting in Rimuru’s stomach. He’s quite eager to act out and try things from the knowledge he acquired; fans can easily spot highly popular manga references just in the first few minutes of his appearance! It’s great to see Veldora happy as he finally sees the outside world and laughs heartily (again and again). This dude looks incredibly powerful —and pretty cool with his design — and hopefully he shows off in future fights!
Party and Planning
Veldora might only be the second biggest surprise to the people as Shion shocks Benimaru and Rimuru with her vile-looking concoction that does not poison consumers! She acquired the Master Chef after being resurrected and now her cooking looks horrible but tastes good! After a fun night of festivities and jubilation, Rimuru gets down to business and lays down a plan to announce his ascent into Demon Lord status; Clayman is the next target! A war between Demon Lords? 100% exciting!
As the meeting goes on, two unexpected guests arrive and barge into the city. The first, King Gazel Dwargo of the Armed Nation of Dwargon, is no stranger to Rimuru and congratulates the new Demon Lord. The second, Elalude Grimwald, is the Archduke of the Sorcerer’s Dynasty Sarion and father of Eren. He was convinced that Rimuru seduced his daughter and attempts an attack only to be thwarted by his own daughter; talk about overprotective fathers! The two probably want to join forces with the slime for their next move!
New Opening and Ending
The opening song ‘Like Flames’ by MindaRyn is full of energy and powerful vocals. The artist is a J-pop singer and YouTuber from Thailand and previously performed the ending theme for the anime ‘By the Grace of the Gods’ entitled ‘BLUE ROSE Knows’. The vibe is quite lively and upbeat — great for hyping up the second part of this season! As the song plays, viewers catch a glimpse of the cast in interesting new uniforms. Will they be switching up their outfits?
The ending theme ‘Reincarnate’ by Takuma Terashima has a more somber feel yet fun feel with a catchy beat and matching vocals that are perfect after a long adventure. The artist is a J-pop singer and voice actor known for performances in Log Horizon (as Shiroe), That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime (as Satoru Mikami), and many others. The song matches the background animation depicting a reflective Rimuru and a few happy-looking scenes.
Author's Rating: 8.8/10
This episode was fun thanks to Veldora’s energy and the much-needed celebration of Tempest’s victory. Rimuru and Benimaru enjoying Shion’s cooking was a great bit of humor especially with the contrasting horrible looks and delicious taste! Apart from the peaceful slice-of-life content, intrigue and excitement for the coming conflict started its buildup. Viewers were definitely excited by Rimuru’s intention to declare war against longtime villain Clayman!
What do Gazel Dwargo and Elalude Grimwald want with Rimuru? How will the new Demon Lord declare war against his old foe? Will viewers finally see Clayman vs Slime? Find out next time!
